Heading to the North of Vietnam 🇻🇳 and getting lost in Sapa
#vietnam #sapa #fansipan #polyglot #travel
We took, my siblings and I, the night bus from Hanoi to Sapa which is a 6-hour+ ride. We strolled around this nice mountainous region and enjoyed the beautiful scenery, especially the one in Holy Fancy Pants, I mean Fansipan, hehe. (My brother used to call it like that and we would always laugh about it.

    Excellent reference! Let me clarify some points from the Greek point of view: 9:16 The ancient Greek word is φασίολος (fasiolos, in the singular), φασίολοι (fasioli, in the plural). Φασούλι-φασούλια (fasouli, fasoulia) is the medieval Greek equivalent which is not used that much anymore. The more common now is fasoli and fasolia with the tonic accent at "o", and with the tonic accent at "a" is the plant. 9:52 Εις την πόλιν (is tin polin) means "to the city". Constantinople was the ultimate city at the time, like todays New York in a sense, and by saying just "πόλη" (city) everyone understood for which city was the context about in the case it was not being referred to by its name. From this derive two greek mottos -1- όλοι οι δρόμοι οδηγούν στην πόλη (oli i dromi odigoun stin poli) = "all roads head to the city", -2- ρωτώντας πάνε στην πόλη (rotontas pane stin poli) = "by asking [they] go to the city", meaning "if you don't know the way to an objective, go there by asking around". 11:18 The word μέθυσος (methysos) refers to a person who is addicted to drink a lot, while μεθυσμένος (methysmenos) is what it is at a given time (the person is drunk).

    Hi, great video! thanks for sharing. I just wanted to contribute something; "bozuk" means broken/out of order. But another meaning of it is "re- purposed". Like "Ahırdan bozma bir küçük bir kulübede yaşıyorlardı." which means they were living is small cabin repurposed from a barn. Bouzuki has this exact meaning. I am not a music expert, but I think Bouzuki is the Greek redesigned/repurposed bağlama, and it is not hard to tell the slight influence of Middle Eastern Ud to this redesign as well. I wish nations and people could come together and live together like musical instruments.

    Same in Bulgarian with exactly the same meaning - кавга - kavga, алъшвериш - alisveris, долап - dolap, бол - bol, чанта - canta, for buzuk we use the Greek pronunciation - бузуки, карабоя - kara boya, таван - tavan, калдаръм - kaldirim, дудук - duduk, пешкир - peskir, бояджия - boyaci. The crosspoint between Bulgarian and the Greek is the Turkish language. Yeah, another crosspoint between Greek and Bulgarian is exactly the Greek language...

    Hello Patrick! "Bozuk" is actually a very common tuning system of a music instrument "saz", also known as "bağlama", which is very beloved in Turkey and strongly related with many string instruments from Balkan to Asia. I don't know, how bozuki is tuned, but there might be some relations there.

    Kardeş biraz daha etimoloji çalışan sanki daha iyi. Çabanı tekdir etmekle beraber orijin konusu karışık. Tarihsel olrak Türkler çok daha önce Anadoludaydı. Farsça Yunanca ve Türkçedeki geçişler çok daha kompleks. Mesela maydonoz mide nevaz farsça orijinli diyebiliriz yakın zamanlı bir yakınsamayla. Orijin yerine ortaklık desen daha iyi olur. Akademik çalışmalar var çok çok ilginç

    Okay small additions. "Fasülye/bean" is from the new world so i guess it cannot be ancient Greek if so what was the meaning in ancient times? Karagöz is a shadow puppet play that was a common entertainment of Ottoman times. In the play there is a character called Karagöz who is a deaf witty man always misunderstanding things and getting angry. Super funny btw you should see an example. every ethnic group is represented in the plays and with common stereotypes and still people like it

    • @gulsinempolat631
      @gulsinempolat631 6 дней назад

      @@hamlet557 okay now it made completely sense to me. It is bakla as we call it a Mediterranean plant that is sort of a wild bean one could say. Much bitter and bigger than the bean itself. I guess that plant name is used later for the North American bean as well. Thank you.

    ''polyglot''Did you mention that Beirut comes from nymph Beroe ?? , Greek: Βερόη Beróē), in Greek mythology, is a nymph of Beirut, the daughter of Aphrodite and Adonis, and sister of Golgos.
